New Carry On Baggage Restrictions - Liquids, Gels and Aerosols
On 1st March 2007, Macau SAR will introduce new aviation security regulations (FAL/SEC Resolution 02/2007) which restrict articles that Passengers may take as carry-on baggage. Please read the following information very carefully.
The new rules apply to all liquids, such as:
- Water, soups, syrups, juices and other drinks
- Gels, pastes, lotions
- Aerosols
- Toiletries, toothpaste, shaving cream, hair gel, lip gloss, facial creams, mascara, liquid lip balms
Carry On Baggage
All liquids must be carried in containers with a maximum capacity of 100 milliliters (larger containers are not acceptable, even if the containers are only partly filled. These containers must be placed in a transparent, re-sealable bag (zip-lock bag) with a maximum capacity of 1 litre. The containers must fit comfortably inside the transparent plastic bag, which should be completely closed. This plastic bag must be presented separately from other carry-on baggage for visual examination at the Passenger screening point. Only one transparent bag may be carried by each Passenger.
Exemptions
Security personnel at the Passenger screening point may exempt prescription medications, baby milk/food and special dietary requirements providing the Passenger can verify the nature of such liquids. Security personnel may also exempt liquids purchased at other airport duty free shops or on board aircraft, providing the liquid is packed in a sealed plastic bag that is both tamper-evident and displays proof of purchase on the same day as the journey. Such items must also be presented separately from other carry-on baggage for visual examination at the Passenger screening point.
Once inside the airport terminal and after passing through the passenger screening point, Passengers may purchase duty free liquids from airport duty free shops and on board the aircraft
Confiscated Items
Prohibited liquids and other restricted articles which are confiscated from Passengers at the screening point will normally be destroyed by the airport authorities. If the Passenger requests, Security staff will keep the items for 15 days, awaiting collection when the Passenger returns to Macau, for a maximum period of 15 days.
Checked Baggage
To assist with the screening process and avoid delays, Passengers in possession of the above prohibited items are encouraged to pack them inside their checked baggage before going to the airport.
Please note that these new regulations are also being implemented in most other Asian countries and airports.
